DOHA- Qatar Airways announced on Monday that it has ordered nine Boeing 777 passenger aircraft during the Paris Air Show, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.
The company said in a statement to the press on Monday that day that the new aircraft will help the airline open up new routes and add capacity to its existing network.
The latest order raised the number of Boeing 777 aircraft the airline ordered from seven to 16. It will also boost its fleet of 777s to 51 aircraft.
Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker said in the statement that 777 aircraft will aid Qatar Airways in operate more direct non-stop flights from Doha to destinations such as Australia and the United States.
He also said that the airline was looking to open up new destinations in the United States, and the new 777 aircrafts will play a big part in achieving that.
Qatar Airways have continuously expanded its 777 fleet ever since it received its first delivery back in 2007. The airline now flies to a number of key long-haul destinations such as Europe, Africa, Asia, North America and South America.
The Paris Air Show is held every two years and is considered one the world’s biggest aerospace events. It attracts more than 2000 participants from across the globe.
Qatar Airways is one of the fastest-growing airlines in the World. Its fleet consists of 125 aircraft that fly to 128 destinations.
