Share prices on Bursa Malaysia remained lower at mid-morning today as investors persistently relinquished their holdings in mostly heavyweights, led by Maybank, dealers said.
At 11.05 am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) decreased 11.31 points or 0.638% to 1,761.57, compared to yesterday’s closing of 1,772.88. Maybank, CIMB and IOI Corporation accounted for 5.324 points of the FMB KLCI’s decline.
Meanwhile, Asian bourses also slipped following fears of liquidity withdrawals around the globe. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng dipped 456.86 points to 20,530.03, Singapore’s Straits Times dropped 54.98 points to 3,158.81 and Japan’s Nikkei 225 lost 143.69 points to 13,101.53.
Back on the scoreboard, the Finance Index slid 152.609 points to 16,687.8, the Industrial Index slipped 13.7 points to 3,003.64 and the Plantation Index dropped 68.7 points to 8,372.08.
The FBM Emas Index fell 81.521 points to 12,261.46, the FBMT100 Index was 77.47 points lower at 12,024.73, the FBM Mid 70 Index lost 92.31 points to 14,145.32 and the FBM Ace Index decreased 32.86 points to 4,727.89.
Losers led gainers by 472 to 105, while 200 counters were unchanged, 806 untraded and 23 others suspended.
Total turnover was moderate with 508.37 million shares worth RM421.468 million shares traded.
For the top losers, British American Tobacco lost 50 sen to RM61.10, Nestle declined 30 sen to RM65.52 and AEON Credit was 26 sen lower at RM17.54.
Among actives, Luster Industries shed one sen to 23 sen, while Luster Industries-warr 13/23 edged up one sen to 12 sen, and Sumatec Resources rose 4.5 sen to 25.5 sen.
For the other heavyweights, Maybank was 16 sen lower at RM10.26, CIMB slipped 11 sen to RM8.18, Sime Darby eased six sen to RM9.50 and IOI Corporation shed 10 sen to RM5.28.
Axiata and Maxis were both unchanged at RM6.65 and RM6.80 respectively.
