Share prices turn mixed at mid-morning

Share prices on Bursa Malaysia turned mixed at mid-morning today as some investors remained on the sidelines, ahead of the US Federal Open Market Committee meeting starting later today, dealers said.

At 11.10 am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) slipped 0.86 point to 1,771.31 from yesterday’s close of 1,772.17.

Meanwhile, most Asian bourses slid, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 losing 91.32 points to 12,941.80 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng dropping 144.88 points to 21,081.02 while Singapore’s Straits Times improved 34.96 points to 3,218.40.

On the scoreboard, the Finance Index increased 34.92 points to 16,830.76 while the Industrial Index declined 4.65 points to 3,013.12 and the Plantation Index slipped 9.49 points to 8,385.79.

The FBM Emas Index rose 8.92 points to 12,320.96, the FBMT100 jumped 10.43 points to 12,082.22, the FBM Mid 70 Index advanced 78 points to 14,176.5 and the FBM Ace Index was 27.48 points higher at 4,762.04. Gainers led losers by 265 to 263, with 281 counters unchanged, 773 untraded and 18 others suspended.

It was mild trading with total turnover at 578.714 million shares worth RM491.685 million.

Among actives, Luster Industries, Winsun Technologies and The Media Shoppe each shed half-a-sen each to 23.5 sen, 10.5 sen and seven sen respectively.

Heavyweights Maybank rose six sen to RM10.44, CIMB added one sen to RM8.21 while Sime Darby and and Axiata remained unchanged at RM9.53 and RM6.65 respectively.
