At 9.30 am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 0.43 point easier at 1,634.10, from Thursday’s 1,634.53.
The key index opened 0.81 point higher at 1,635.34.
Market breadth was positive with gainers outpacing decliners 268 to 162, while 200 counters were unchanged, 1,139 untraded and 60 others suspended.
Turnover stood at 285.09 million shares worth RM237.24 million.
“The upbeat overnight performance of Wall Street failed to entice investors, perhaps because it’s near a weekend,” said a dealer.
On the scoreboards, the FBM Emas Index rose 20.56 points to 11,375.71, the FBMT100 Index advanced 17.96 points to 11,084.79 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index inched up 1.20 points to 12,195.74.
The FBM 70 surged 95.60 points to 12,729.58, while the FBM Ace appreciated 22.42 points to 5,812.73.
Sector-wise, the Finance Index bagged 95.26 points to 13.764.96, the Plantation Index climbed 54.98 points to 7,629.50, while the Industrial Index declined 5.76 points to 3,225.55.
Among heavyweights, Petronas Chemicals and IOI Corporation gained 12 sen each to RM7.13 and RM4.55 respectively, while Maybank edged up 9 sen to RM8.50.
Actively traded stocks this morning included KNM, Sumatec, AirAsia X and Perisai.
