BlackBerry aims to upgrade its position to second place by year-end with the introduction of six new products this year.
It was placed third among smartphone players in Malaysia last year.
Blackberry Malaysia Country Director Annamalai Muthu said with the launch of the new BlackBerry Z10 (all touch) in Malaysia today, BlackBerry can create a new and unique mobile computing experience.
“BlackBerry Z10 is powered by BlackBerry 10 platform having about 17 000 applications, including with more than 100 applications can be accessed by local users,” he told reporters at the launching ceremony today.
Annamalai said the other criteria offer by BlackBerry Z10 are video call andadvance typing system.
He said the company also saw the potential of smartphones with keypad instead of all touch screen as there are still about 25 percent users still keen to use smartphones with keypad and they want to focus into that niche.
He said BlackBerry Q10 with keypad would be introduced in June.
Available in two colours, black and white, the price for BlackBerry Z10 is RM2188 and will be available in the market soon.
BlackBerry Z10 will be available from the authorised dealer — Maxis on March 9, with pre-registration programme tomorrow.
The phone will also be available from Celcom and DiGi on April 8.
