NEC Asia Pacific Pte Ltd (NEC APAC) launched its new ‘Regional Retail Business Support Centre’ (RSBC) in Malaysia on May 16, marking the occasion with a gala dinner held in conjunction with its NEC Solutions showcase.

Hosting Shigeru Nakamura, Ambassador of Japan, as well as Dr Rebecca Fatima Sta Maria, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MITI), the highlight of the gala dinner at The Gardens Hotel Ballroom was the Japanese traditional ceremony Kagami Biraki, which saw esteemed guests of the evening break open a sake barrel.

The tradition, usually performed to mark the celebration of significant events, is believed to have originated from the Tokugawa Shogunate era several centuries ago. Also in attendance was NEC Corporation’s senior vice-president Manabu Kinoshita and associate senior vice-presidents, Chikara Ishii and Toshiya Matsuki, the latter also the NEC APAC CEO.

NEC APAC is the Asia Pacific regional headquarters of NEC Corporation.

The NEC Solutions showcase which was also held to mark the launch featured some of NEC’s retail and business solutions through the set-up of booths demonstrating a restaurant, boutique, meeting room, server room and smart energy room.

Set-up in March this year, RSBC is an effort to standardise globally NEC’s retail solutions in system planning, development, operation and maintenance.  NEC also intends for RSBC to be its platform in formulating regional strategy as well as supporting sales, technological issues and developing its human resource as it cooperates with its Southeast Asian partners including those in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.
