Ford’s Kuga, featuring a hands-free liftgate function touted to be the first in its class in Malaysia, is now available at all Ford showrooms across the country.
Dubbed a “smart SUV”, the Kuga’s key features include a 1.6-litre EcoBoost petrol engine with 180 PS power (equivalent to 177.5 HP) and 240 Nm of torque as well as a voice-activated Ford SYNC connectivity. The SUV also comes with an Intelligent All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system that includes Torque Vectoring Control and Curve Control for more precise handling.
Notably, the model comes with a hands-free liftgate that can be opened and closed by waving your foot beneath the rear bumper. In a statement today, Ford notes that this Kuga feature is first in Malaysia in its class.
“The all-new Ford Kuga is a smart SUV with increasing popularity worldwide, “ said David Westerman, regional manager, Asia Pacific, Ford Export & Growth Operations. “We are already increasing production of the all-new Ford Kuga at the Valencia plant in Spain by 10 per cent or 8,000 units to meet the surge in demand.”
Safety first
The increasing popularity of the Kuga is presumably in large part due to its outstanding safety features.
Describing the Kuga as an adventure-ready SUV with significant power and performance capabilities, Ford notes that it is also “distinguished by smart and safe technologies” that include seven airbags as well as ultra high-strength steels deployed in key structural areas. Additionally, there is a post-crash SOS alert system. These features have helped the Kuga score the highest Euro NCAP safety rating for a compact SUV.
Ford Kuga is available in four different colours — Ginger Ale, Panther Black, Frozen White and Moondust Silver — and is priced at RM159,999 with a five-year/200,000km new vehicle warranty.
