The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will ensure that companies involved in the redistribution and bidding process of telecommunication spectrum would fairly obtain the spectrum resources.
Commenting on the matter raised in the Budget 2016 recalibration, MCMC chairman Halim Shafie said MCMC would ensure that its objective would be accomplished.
With the redistribution of the telecommunication spectrum, new services like 4G will be improved and offered at affordable rates in the urban and rural areas, he said in a statement today.
Halim described the approach, which was announced by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak when presenting the recalibrated Budget 2016 yesterday, as timely and beneficial to the industry and consumers.
The prime minister said the government would be looking at optimising revenue from the telecommunications spectrum through a redistribution and bidding process, which will be implemented soon.
“MCMC supports the approach as we move forward to achieve the government’s vision in providing wider communication services to consumers,” Halim said.
